Conan O’Brien to Return as Oscars Host in 2026

March 17, 2025

After a Critically Acclaimed 2025 Ceremony, O’Brien is Set to Lead the 98th Academy Awards

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially announced that Conan O’Brien will return as host for the 98th Oscars, set to air on March 15, 2026.

O’Brien’s first time hosting the prestigious event in 2025 was a major success, drawing the highest viewership in five years with 19.69 million total viewers and an 18-49 demographic rating of 4.54. His sharp wit and effortless charm made him an instant hit, earning rave reviews despite some criticism of the overall telecast. The event also made waves on social media, generating 104.2 million interactions, surpassing both the Grammys (102.2 million) and even the Super Bowl (62.4 million).

Alongside O’Brien, the executive producing team from 2025—Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, Jeff Ross, and Mike Sweeney—will also return to helm the production.

A Winning Formula for the Oscars

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and outgoing president Janet Yang expressed their enthusiasm about bringing back the team for another year.

“This year, they produced a hugely entertaining and visually stunning show that celebrated our nominees and the global film community in the most beautiful and impactful way. Conan was the perfect host — skillfully guiding us through the evening with humor, warmth, and reverence. It is an honor to be working with them again.”

O’Brien, never missing a chance for humor, joked about his return:

“The only reason I’m hosting the Oscars next year is that I want to hear Adrien Brody finish his speech.”

The Conan Effect: Comedy and Connection

Conan O’Brien, known for his quick wit and self-deprecating humor, proved to be an ideal host, bringing fresh energy to the Academy Awards. His opening monologue in 2025 set the tone for an engaging, entertaining, and culturally resonant ceremony.

Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, praised O’Brien’s impact on the show:

“Conan’s unique comedic style perfectly captured the moment, and I’m excited to have his talents back onstage next year to helm another indelible performance.”

Kapoor and Mullan also shared their excitement about returning:

“We are both so honored to be returning in our roles for the 98th Oscars. We can’t wait to work with Conan and his entire team as we continue to explore even more special and heartfelt opportunities to celebrate next year’s nominees and the impact of film around the world.”

A Must-Watch Oscars in 2026

With Conan O’Brien back at the helm and the proven production team returning, the 98th Academy Awards is shaping up to be another unforgettable event. Given the success of the 2025 ceremony, fans can expect an evening filled with laughter, heartfelt moments, and a celebration of cinematic excellence.
